a good book about a book

I borrowed "Jesus Wants To Save Christians" a week ago or so, and was hardly able to put it down. Rob Bell and Don Golden do an amazing job of walking through the story of the Bible, drawing out the overlying themes, offering inspiring insights of how they apply to us today in our world.

Probably much of my love for this book (you might not feel the same) is influenced by the fact that I'm in "Bible Study" mode these days. I'm preparing to teach a week-long session in the DTS on how to engage the Scriptures next month. I'm finding that increasingly important to the understanding and appreciation of any passage of Scripture is an understanding of the overall story of the Bible, to provide context to what we read.

I like the way Rob and Don tell this story in an engaging, surprising way, a way that kept me captivated throughout its telling, and has given me a greater excitement for what I read of the Bible.

Check out "Jesus Wants to Save Christians", and let me know what you think.

White, blue, and fuzzy

Yesterday we went for drive to Boulder and took some pictures. After three days of snow, on this sunny day the mountains were looking beautiful. We were also surprised to find a herd of elk venturing off the foothills (we were assuming they were wild, we'd never seen them there before :o). Beautiful, eh?

local outreach last Monday

On Monday I (Brent) led a small group of students on a weekly outreach in Denver. We worked with Confluence Ministries, which works in an at-risk neighborhood in downtown Denver.

Our group split up to work with various ministries in the neighborhood. Me and a few others walked throughout the neighborhood, praying for the people, as well as handing out flyers (in both English and Spanish, in this largely Hispanic neighborhood) for a finance education class being held at Confluence on Saturday.

We were glad to be a part of what this ministry is doing to demonstrate God's love by ministering to every aspect of life, even handling finances.

april update

This has been a week of transition for us at YWAM Denver. Last Friday
(March 27) we graduated our 13 students of the W.I.S.E. training
program, and it was exciting to see the ways that each student has
grown and changed during the past 3 months with us. We also sent off
three DTS outreach teams, to Mexico, Panama, and Thailand. The
following Monday (March 30) we welcomed a new group of 30 students in
for the spring training programs. On top of that, many staff
commitments were finished at the end of March, so we have being saying
goodbye to several good friends and co-workers as they move on to
other things.

During the spring our staff roles will include Anna being a small
group leader (she has a group of 3 girls, two Americans and a South
AFrican) for the Phase II leadership training program, as well as
working as a registrar and local outreach coordinator. I will be
working in our graphics department, leading a weekly outreach, and
making preparations for this summer's School of Biblical Foundations,
which I will be leading. I will also be doing some teaching in the
DTS in May.

Personally we're feeling refreshed and excited for the season ahead.
The spring has been snowy so far, which has made for some great
snowboarding!

Thanks for your prayers and support! Please continue to pray for us
as we invest into each other, our students and our city.

Thanks.
